Presented by Art Ain’t Trash , DISPLACED brings together five intergenerational diaspora artists - Charlie Phillips OBE, Navinder Nangla, BAFTA winner Darcy Thomas, Ryan Hawaii and ARU.
Through discarded plastic, reclaimed textiles and salvaged media, the artists transform materials shaped by histories of displacement into works that explore resilience, resourcefulness and the enduring relationship between people, place and material.
Reframing human migration, waste colonialism, and storytelling through archival photography and ancestral material alchemy, the works draw a direct parallel between the forced displacement of Global South communities and the toxic dumping of Western waste onto our ancestral homelands.
Refusing to let our stories or materials be treated as disposable, these five artists transform discarded remnants into sacred fine art—proving that circularity, sustainability and resourcefulness have always been part of our heritage.
